The popularity of the U.S. Congress is at an all-time low. A recent CBS News/New York Times poll shows that just 9 percent of Americans approve of the federal legislative body. How bad is that? Well, just about the only thing Americans hate more than Congress is Fidel Castro.
Chris Cillizza at the Washington Post’s Fix blog maps out the approval numbers of Congress in relation to the approval numbers of other vastly unpopular people and institutions:
When Americans view the favorability of Hugo Chavez, a South American dictator elected in less-than-ethical fashion, on the same level as their own democratically elected lawmakers, you know something is bad.
Alas, only Fidel Castro gets lower approval ratings, at a measly 5 percent. Though, no one is fleeing their homeland en masse to escape the horrors of the U.S. Congress. Yet, anyway.
