It’s been nearly a year since Tyler Weinman was arrested and charged with a string of cat killings in the Palmetto and Cutler Bay neighborhoods. His trial isn’t even set to begin until October 25, but the Miami-Dade justice system trudges on. Weinman made an appearance in court today, during which his attorney may have previewed the defense tactic: pit bulls did it.
Weinman faces 21 charges each of felony animal cruelty and improperly disposing of the animal’s body, in addition to four counts of burglary for allegedly dumping the cats’ bodies back on their owners’ lawns.
Weinman’s attorney said that he may argue that two wild pit bulls in the area are actually responsible for the crimes, according to CBS4. However, the string of cat killings stopped once Weinman was arrested.
The judge also ordered that all DNA tests in the case must be completed by June 18.
